LEGAL INTERN

CENTER FOR FAMILY REPRESENTATION INC.

New York, NY (Summer 2018)

  • Wrote memorandum addressing New York’s inadequate resources for parenting and pregnant youth in foster care through legal and empirical research, along with site visits, to inform office in this field
  • Created case digest by investigating and summarizing pertinent facts of case in chart, highlighting critical trends to support supervising lawyer in court
  • Compiled case law, statutes, and regulations in Ohio supporting the organization’s mission for cornerstone advocacy to support the organization in presentation preparation

My first week, I was put in training on the organization and its mission. With a sense of urgency and curiosity, I took the initiative to approach my supervisor about my passion for the law, family reunification, and excitement for more engaging work. She allowed me to shadow her at my discretion, allowing me first-hand experience of court appearances in Manhattan Family Court, as well as client meetings and office meetings.

“Anisha is a remarkably thoughtful and diligent student intern. She was eager to learn everything about our office’s practice. While most of our summer interns are in law school and have already spent several semesters studying relevant substantive areas, both of her supervisors were impressed with Anisha’s ability to quickly grasp and internalize legal concepts and ideas... Given her analytic skills and intellectual focus, we believe she will succeed in any career that she chooses.”
